Here we have a finished custom mantle we recently did in Meadow View, Temecula. The room had just a slab of granite (see the before picture below) on the wall, not even a mantle shelf! So, it wasn’t very functional for the homeowners.
First, we built the mantle all the way up the the shelf. We then drilled all the holes and ran the electrical down the mantle leg so it could run concealed into the media cabinet.
After they provided us with the TV measurements, we were able to build the top entertainment center portion and the TV fit “like a glove”.
It’s a dramatic change from a giant slab of granite that could not be used for anything but looks… If you are into counter tops on walls!
Needless to say, the homeowners were very pleased with the outcome on this one. We also did all the crown molding, refaced the kitchen cabinets with new doors, drawers and hardware and installed all new baseboards throughout the home.
I believe it took us just over a week to complete everything in the whole house from scratch, not bad for a couple brothers…

Here is the room before the custom mantle. They decided to move ahead with the mantle after we had done the crown, so we just removed the crown at the top of the granite slab and put it on again after we finished the mantle/entertainment center.
Here is a shot of the 6″ crown molding we did in the same house (same room actually). You can see the ceilings are vaulted in this room. Many people call and ask if we can do crown on a vaulted ceiling and the answer is usually yes! It really depends on the pitch of the ceiling. We can always do it, but extreme pitches make the crown sit on the wall kind of funky and its not recommended. This room was no problem though…
